My name is Libertad Heredia. I was born in Barcelona and I am a biologist.
I am currently finishing my master’s degree in Neuroscience and I would like to start a doctorate next year.
The truth is that I was always clear that I wanted to study. I wanted – and I want to – help people doing what I like most: science. And if for her she had to make a career, at least she would try.
I think studying has been one of the best decisions I have ever made because, although it has sometimes been difficult or frustrating, and although it has initially frightened me, I now know that I am able to do so, and that is why I have more confidence in myself. Having studied I have not only got the opportunity to opt for the job that I have always wanted to have and to be able to earn my living with my passion, but I have grown as a person, I have become more responsible and courageous and, besides, I have made my family feel proud of me, which makes me happy.
In the future I would like to work in the field of Neuroscience, to be able to be in research for the cure of some neuronal disease, such as Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s. My dream is to put a small grain of sand – even a small one – to help everyone who suffers from this type of disease.
I would love to encourage girls – and even not-so-girls – to pursue their dreams. To study if that is what they want and do not fear, because not only will they get to work what they like, but also a better paid job and with better schedules that allows them more free time for what they want – family, friends , whatever-; they will gain incredible self-confidence and, in addition, they will help all the gypsies of the world demonstrating that we can too.
