In 2026, we continue to promote training activities and the participation of Roma women in educational spaces through the Romi Trokané project. These training programmes aim to improve their employability, challenge stereotypes and increase the representation of Roma women in educational settings, where they have historically been underrepresented, while also generating a positive impact on both the Roma community and the school environment.
For more than 20 years, Drom Kotar Mestipen has been running the Leisure Time and School Canteen Leaders Course. The course is officially recognised by the Government of Catalonia (Generalitat de Catalunya) and consists of 150 hours of theoretical training and 160 hours of practical training. After completing their practical placement, participants are required to prepare a report reflecting on their experience and what they have learned during this period.
Over the years, the training has been held in different areas of Catalonia. In 2026, the course was held in Barcelona, in the Sant Martí district, with the aim of responding to the needs of women from neighbourhoods such as La Pau and La Verneda, as well as nearby areas such as La Mina. A total of 18 women participated in this edition.
And we continue moving forward. On 1 October, a new training programme will begin: the Special Education Support Assistants Course, a 40-hour online course focused on accompanying and supporting students with special educational needs.
The response has been very positive: 30 women have already pre-registered to take part in this new training programme.
With each new group of Leisure Time and School Canteen Leaders and Special Education Support Assistants, we continue to expand employment opportunities for Roma women and strengthen their presence as role models in schools and other educational settings.
